News, Trading Hours and the Rules Firms Don't Advertise

Why stops slip around big releases, and the closing-time and contract rules that end accounts quietly.

Some rules aren't on the headline page. They still end evaluations.

Big releases move fast

CPI and jobs reports come out at 8:30 New York time; FOMC decisions at 2:00 pm. Price can jump past your stop between fills, so a planned $200 loss can become $500.

Firm news rules

Some firms restrict trading around major releases, especially on funded accounts. Read your firm's rules page for exactly which releases and how many minutes.

Closing time and overnight

Most futures firms want you flat before a set time each afternoon, and some don't allow holding through the weekend. A position left open past it can end the account on its own.

Contract caps

Evaluations cap how many contracts you can hold, sometimes in steps as the account grows. Going over, even briefly, is a rule break.

Key words:Discipline

TradeCompass turns this into your own rules: it checks every trade against them and warns you before you break one.
